Velvet Finder Background by hotiron Velvet Finder Background by hotiron
I finally got around to making a custom Finder background to go with my current Metal Muku fetish. This is a 2,000 pixel by 4,000 pixel image to be used with the typical settings (128 pixel icons & 10 pt font). Remember to adjust the spacing so they all line up. And it's an 8-bit PNG to keep the file size down (900Kb) for speed. The download includes a corrugated board background as well. Here's a quick visual tutorial on how to setup Finder for these backgrounds. If you like these you should also try my Metalik Muku theme and Metal Muku iTunes 9.1 traffic lights mod. Enjoy!

On SL 10.6 I don't know if there's a settings section for finder. How can you get those settings displayed in the visual tutorial? Or am I just blind?

Snow Leopard needs 2000x2000 pixels sizes and I can't edit the FlockedVelvet.png in PS. I get a popup saying;

'Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file.

Can we please get these either resized or the image fixed so I can crop it?

THANKS

The alias badge you see here is one I did a while ago, you can download them here [link] but I have made some really cool updates to the blue alias badge and you can grab that one [link] from my cloud. You'll need a tool like Panic's CandyBar or IconBox to apply them. Enjoy!

They are a mix of some sidebar icons and some app icons that I found around. Some of the best are from "Clean by queo" that you can download here [link] on MTF and you will find some searching on "sidebar" at iconpaper.org here [link] and also check out the little 16px cloud here [link] <-- that one's mine.

I've found that Finder won't use any images larger than 2000 x 2000. I wonder if there is a difference in the com.apple.finder plist file..

I hadn't seen that, weird. I have seen a lot of 4000px long Finder backgrounds and used many of them successfully. I looked through my com.apple.finder plist file and can see the StandardViewSettings and IconViewSettings branches but nothing there seems to set a v-size. I made a version that is just under 2000 pixels vertical if you want to try it --> [link] <-- I also have a 24-bit PNG version but it's 6MB so it won't make a good Finder background.

Yeah I have no idea why it wont work for me.. and I can't seem to find a solution. Anyway thanks for the 2000 pix bg. I appreciate it. :D

Hmm I matched your guide to the T and it still doesn't work.. Some other images work. The only thing I can figure is it must be related to the image resolution, though I don't understand why it would be an issue for me and not anyone else..

It's a PNG so it can be used on Mac or Win but I am not sure how you would use this on a Windows machine.
