WIP Snow Sabre Aquave Platinum by hotiron WIP Snow Sabre Aquave Platinum by hotiron
All credit goes to Christian Pucci and Monsieur Laurent Baumann and David Lanham

UPDATE #2: Major overhaul to the folder "platinum" effects including new lighting effects, grain, and shadows.

UPDATE #1: Great comment from ~Lykos below has prompted me to explore a minor tweak to align folder shadows with tag & glyph shadows. Here's what the revision looks like and here's the icon file from this preview.

If anyone caught my teaser Aquave Platinum icons post you know I've been on an on-again-off-again quest to merge my platinum-ized version of the now historic Aquave Project icon template from the great Laurent Baumann with a worthy set of glyphs to create a sort of modern version of Aquave and hopefully play a small part in keeping the project moving forward. My first attempt was to merge "glyphs" from the famous Agua icon set from another artist, the great David Lanham, to see what they might look like. In my typical ADD fashion I then saw the recent Snow Sabre icon set on OSXMagazine a great site to check out by the way from the also incredibly talented minimac aka the great Italian artist Christian Pucci and fell in love with the exceptionally articulated and wonderfully detailed folder tags. While Snow Sabre already has great folders, I could not help but wonder how those beautiful glyphs would look on the now timeless Aquave folders especially with the platinum grey mod I’ve been playing with. So I contacted Signore Pucci and began discussing the project concept. To make a long story a little less long, all permissions were very nicely granted so here's a peek at what the combined works from these incredibly talented artists looks like. What do you think? Is this a project worthy of undertaking? Let me know.

Yes, I can do the ICO of these too. I am about to let the first beta release go out. I'll include the ICO file too. DMG is a Mac disk image.

I can't get over this, great icons... Do you think you would ever release the "sabre" PSD? I know about the base PSD that started Aquave but I would love to build off the exact backing. Well those are just wishes. Thank you again for the teaser!

You know, Aquave is one of the nicest folder icon sets out there and really deserves to be built upon. ;)

They look good but the shadows on the tags look to dark compared to the folder shadows.

Do you mean the big, grainy drop shadow on the folders themselves or somewhere else? I ask because the folder's drop shadows are part of the preview only, the folder ICNS themselves have little visible shadow. If so maybe switching to a glow behind the folders in the preview would set them off better?

I see now what you mean now, the Aquave folders don't have much internal shadow (between pages) and the glyphs do against the top page. I am going to add some internal shadow to the folders, to see if that works. It could be nice! A good point, thanks!

~Lykos, thanks for the keen eye, you've prompted me to explore a minor tweak to the folder template to better align their shadows with tag & glyph shadows. Here's what the revision I am working on looks like [link] and here's the icon file you see in this preview [link]

All I am doing here is putting ~minimamente's great work [link] on Snow Sabre together with Laurent Baumann's beautiful and timeless folders. I'm just the middleman here doing a little grunt work. But I agree they make a great pairing! Thanks!!
