The big buzz around Apple and the iPhone seems to be www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,… (their recent patent filing) that everyone says will let them deactivate a jail-broken phone. The magazines and blogs are saying that; "... for those currently jailbreaking their phones, the Apple patent would allow them to begin limiting features on a compromised device and even allow Apple to delete all of the data." This seems like a response to our Librabry of Congress' ruling that www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-07… (jailbreaking is not a violation of copyright laws). I am a big fan of jailbreaking (for the themeing capabilities Winterboard gives me) and would hate to see this go away but I have to admit this makes me thing twice before I visit "www.jailbreak-my-iphone.com" on my iPhone4's Safari browser. I thought the jailbreaking subculture was a big part of the iPhone's popularity and it seems an odd move for Apple to crack down in such a Machiavellian way because 1% of the app developers are not getting their $1.99 less iTune's cut. I am sure I am just being naive but what is this world coming to? Are they going to do this to my MacBook Pro next so I can't use ThemePark to apply a cool theme? I say if you are going to crack down then you also need to open up in a similar fashion Apple.
